Groups and invite links
A group is a small private feed where you and the people you invite share what you are doing in your gardens. Only the members of a group see its posts. For sharing with everyone, see Share a plant in Community.
Start a group
- Open Community and switch to the Groups tab.
- Press New group, give it a name, and press Create.
The Groups tab lists every group you belong to, with how many members it has, when it was last updated and a count of posts you have not seen yet.
Invite people
Open the group, open its Members list and press Share invite link. The link is copied (or your phone's share menu opens), and it works for 7 days. Anyone who opens it sees the group's name and can join, so send it only to people you want in the group. Every member can create an invite link.
Someone who gets a link opens it, signs in or creates an account, and presses Join. If they have a link but it will not open, they can also go to Community, Groups, and press Join with a link, then paste it. A link that is wrong or too old says "This invite link is invalid or has expired. Ask for a new one."
If you shared a link by mistake, the group's owner can press Revoke all invite links in the group settings. Links stop working at once.
Share an update
The Share an update button sits at the bottom of a group. It opens the Log care sheet with this group already chosen under Share to. Pick the plant, say what you did, add photos and a note, and save. The post lands in the group's feed.
You can also share while logging care anywhere: the Share to row in the Log care sheet lists your groups. See Log watering, fertilizing and photos.
A post shows the plant's name and your photos to the group's members. Sharing a log to a group does not make the plant public.
React and reply
Hold a post, or tap its bubble, to open the post menu. It offers five reactions: heart, sprout, love, clap and laugh. The reactions appear under the post. You can delete your own posts, and the group's owner can delete anyone's.
Notifications for a group
When someone shares to a group, the other members get a notification, as long as they have Group updates switched on in Profile and have set up notifications on their device (how to do that). To silence one group without turning off the rest, open its Members list and switch off Mute notifications. A muted group tells you "You won't be notified about new posts here."
Look after the group
The group's owner (the person who created it) can:
- Rename group.
- Remove a member.
- Revoke all invite links.
- Delete group. Everyone loses the feed, and it cannot be undone.
Any other member can Leave group, from the same settings. If a former member's posts are still in the feed, their name shows as "Former member".
Groups, households and Community compared
- A group shares updates and photos with friends. Nobody edits anyone else's plants.
- A shared household shares one garden, so everyone in it can water, edit and log the same plants.
- Community shows a plant to every grower.
