Your data, privacy and deleting your account
This page explains in plain words how your information is handled in the app. The formal versions are the Privacy policy and the Terms of service; if this page and the policy ever differ, the policy is the one that counts.
What we keep
- Your email address and the name you gave.
- The plants you add, with their care logs and photos.
- The groups you belong to and what you post in them.
- Your settings: time zone, language and similar preferences.
- If you turn on notifications: an address for your device and its browser details, so a reminder can reach it. A device that has not been seen for 60 days is dropped from the list.
We use this to run the app: to show your plants, to remind you when they need care, and to let groups share. We do not sell your data.
Who can see what
| Thing | Who sees it |
|---|---|
| A plant, its log and photos | Only you, and the members of your household if you have one |
| A plant you switched on Share in Community for | Everyone, read-only, with your display name and avatar |
| A care update you shared to a group | The members of that group |
| Your email address | Nobody else |
| Your reminders and device addresses | Only you |
A visitor who is not signed in can see public plants and the first page of Community. Everything else needs an account.
What helps run the service
Keep Growing uses a few outside services, and the privacy policy lists them: a database and sign-in provider that also stores photos, a hosting provider that also runs the security check on the sign-in forms (it looks at your browser and connection, not at what you type), Google only if you choose to sign in with Google, and the push services that deliver notifications to your device. Visitors and free accounts may see ads once they are switched on, which can use cookies; Premium accounts see none. The app itself sets no advertising cookies: it keeps your sign-in and settings in your browser's own storage.
Take your information with you
- CSV history: on a plant's page, Add to calendar or export gives you every event you logged for that plant as a CSV file you can open in any spreadsheet.
- .ics file: the Calendar's Export button and each plant page give you your schedule as a calendar file. See Use the calendar and export your schedule.
Remove things yourself
- A log: open the plant, tap the entry in its care log and press Delete this log. You can undo straight away.
- A plant: open it and choose Delete plant from the more-actions menu, or select several in the Plants list. Deleting a plant removes it and all its logged events, and cannot be undone.
- Stop sharing: switch off Share in Community on the plant, or delete the group post from its menu.
- A group: leave it from its Members list. The owner can delete it.
- A household: leave it, or if you are the owner, end it. See the household guide.
- Notifications: switch Daily reminder or Group updates off in Profile.
An account you create but never confirm by email is deleted automatically after a week.
Delete your account
There is no delete button in the app yet. To have your account and everything in it deleted, write to [email protected] from the address you signed up with, and we will do it. Contact has the details.
Before you ask, you may want to export the history of plants you care about (see above).
