Share a garden with your household

Updated 23 October 2026 ยท 5 min read

A household is one garden for the people you live with. Everyone in it sees the same plants and can water, edit and log them, so the monstera is not watered twice and nobody has to ask "did you do the ferns?"

Households are part of Premium. The person who creates the household needs Premium, and the people they invite do not (see Premium and promo codes).

How it works

  • One garden. The household's plants are the owner's plants. A member owns nothing of their own while they are in the household: they see the owner's garden and work in it.
  • Everyone can act. Members can view, add, edit, log and delete plants, places, tags, soil mixes and fertilizers.
  • Every log says who did it. A care log shows "by Noa", and a plant page shows "Last watered by Noa". Your Profile counts and your streak count only the logs you wrote yourself.
  • Reminders stay personal. Each person is reminded about every plant they can see, and a log by anyone clears the reminder for everyone.
  • One owner. The person who created the household is its owner. The owner can rename it, remove members, switch the invite links off and end the household.

Create a household

  1. Open Profile and find the Household row under Garden.
  2. Press Create a household and give it a name (1 to 40 characters). It starts as "Your name's home".
  3. Press Invite someone. The link is copied.

If you do not have Premium, the sheet says households need it and offers Redeem a code.

Invite someone

Any member can press Invite someone. The link works for 7 days, can be used by any number of people, and at most 20 links can be live at once. Anyone who opens it can join, so share it only with people you trust. The owner can see how many links are live and press Switch them off.

Joining a household

Someone who opens the link, signs in and sees the invite page, which names the household and its owner. If they already have plants, the page asks what should happen to them. There is no default, so nothing is chosen for them.

  • Merge my plants. Their plants, logs, photos, places, tags, soil mixes and fertilizers move into the household, and stay with it if they leave. Merged plants become private (a public plant would put the owner's name on Community). If a place or mix has the same name as one the owner already has, it is renamed "Name (Joiner)". The photo files move straight afterwards; if some cannot, the page offers Try again.
  • Start fresh (delete my plants). Everything they have now is deleted, photos included, and they join an empty garden. The page asks them to confirm and says how many plants will go. This cannot be undone.

Someone who is already in a household has to leave it first. A person can be in only one household at a time.

If merging would take the household past 15 plants and the owner does not have full Premium, the page says so and offers Start fresh instead.

Leaving, removing and ending

  • Leave household (any member except the owner): you lose access to the household's plants, including any you brought in. They stay with the household. Leaving always means an empty app. You can start a new garden afterwards.
  • Remove a member (owner only): they lose access at once and are left with an empty app, and their account stays. Removing a member also switches every invite link off, so the link they joined with cannot let them straight back in. Make a new link to invite someone else.
  • End household (owner only): everyone else loses access and is left with an empty app. All the plants and logs stay with the owner. The owner cannot "leave", only end it.

Group posts a member made from household plants are removed when they leave, so a former member does not keep the owner's private plant names in their groups.

When a household pauses

A household depends on its owner's Premium. If the owner's Premium or trial ends, the household pauses: members cannot open the household's garden, and invites stop working. Nothing is deleted. It comes back at once when the owner has Premium again. A member can still leave, and the owner can still remove members or end the household.

If the owner is on a trial, the Household sheet and the join page say when it ends, and from three days before the end the owner and the members are told. A trial keeps the free plan's limit of 15 plants.

Who is who in the care log

Names in the log come from each person's profile name. A member who has left shows as "by a former member".
